School Rules! 9-11 years old
As children enter early adolescence they will seek out more opportunities for independent socialisation. This may involve journeys to the local shops or going to visit a friend's house.
The types of games will change to become more complex and challenging. Spontaneous games such as tag and ball games are very popular. Board games and small screen games are popular quiet time pursuits.
Initially supervise your child until you are both confident about the environment and the activity.
Insist on the application of sunscreen, wearing of hats and appropriate clothing when encouraging outdoor activities. You can reinforce these behaviours by role modeling sun smart strategies such as avoiding the peak hours of the day between 10am and 3pm. For Sun Smart information visit:
