KIDSAFE HOUSE

* Can I bring along my baby and / or children ?

Feel welcome to bring along your infant or child. Children must be supervised by parents / caregivers at all times during Kidsafe House visits and remain the responsibility of parents / caregivers.

* Is there anywhere nearby to have lunch or morning tea:

There are a variety of coffee shops and eateries within the grounds of the Children's Hospital at Westmead. Another option for a fine day, is to bring along a picnic and sit in the grassed area nearby or the placespace (if otherwise unoccupied).

*Are there change facilities & toilets in the house?
No. The house is designed for demonstration only. Toilet & change facilities are available in the Medical Centre next door.

* Is Kidsafe House opened on weekends?
Unfortunately we do not have sufficient funding for this service. However, we do have occasional Open Days on weekends to give people who can't attend during the week.

PLAYGROUND SAFETY

* What type of undersurfacing is suitable for my playspace?
There are 3 main types of undersurfacing available on the market, these include: organic mulch, synthetic grass and wet-pour rubber. Your choice of undersurfacing will depend on a number of factors including, your budget, location and environmental conditions. Information regarding undersurfacing materials, depths, safefall zones and maintenance is provided in the Playground Safety Fact Files which can be ordered through the Available Publications section of the website.

* Do we have enough space in our yard for swings?
In relation to Swings the safe fall zone should be measured from:
1) the furthest extension of the moving components in the direction of movement (the maximum swinging arc) and
2) the perimeter of the equipment for the non-moving components. Kidsafe recommends that the perimeter is determined by the posts or structure/ frame of the swing.
Undersurfacing material is required for the entire safefall zone.

* What plants are poisonous?
Many plants can be poisonous. Most people are aware that some are (like oleander) but are you sure the plants in your playspace/ backyard are safe? To find out what plants are safe and suitable for playspaces your can order Plants for Playspaces though the Available Publications section of the website.

* Do you know anyone who supplies playground equipment?
The Playground Advisory Unit has compiled the Playspace Resource Directory which lists the contact details for playground suppliers, including equipment (mobile and fixed), undersurfacing, shade, designers and landscape contractors. (The Playground Advisory Unit does not endorse the suppliers listed in the Playspace Resource Directory).
