Kidsafe is proud to present the |
2010 National Playspace Design Awards |
The Kidsafe 2010 National Playspace Design Awards will recognise excellence and innovation in the provision of safe, creative playspaces Australia wide. The Awards are open to service providers, design professionals, students, landscape contractors and playground providers in all sectors. This is a great opportunity to showcase current playspace design and development achievements. The Awards aim to promote inspirational and innovative best practice play facilities and encourage healthy participation in recreational activities for all children.

Judging Criteria
Entries will be reviewed by members of a multi-disciplinary panel including representatives of Kidsafe, children’s services, education, engineering, injury prevention, design and local government. Judging will assess entries on the basis of:
- Commitment to safe play environments
- Innovative and cohesive design
- Consideration of inclusive playspace design principles and provision of appropriate facilities for all users
- Provision of a range of elements promoting a diversity of play value
- Inclusion of natural /historical /cultural aspects relevant to the site and local community and engagement of community consultation
- Commitment to environmentally sustainable playspace design principles such as use of recycled materials, longevity of component, minimised maintenance/ vandalism resource requirements
Entries must reflect playspaces that:
- have been installed/constructed since September 2006;
- are currently open for use;
- have not been submitted for previous Kidsafe Playspace Design Awards.
Kidsafe 2010 National Playspace Design Award Categories
- Children’s Services : preschools, long day care, out of school hours care, vacation care, occasional care
- Schools : all levels of public and private schools
- Public Playspaces :
* District Parks—serves local community, usually provides for 2 age groups
* Regional Parks—serves local community and visitors, usually larger scale and provides for all ages
* Urban Precincts—attached to a mall, shopping centre, library etc.
- Innovative Design Elements : sound items, shade, sandpit covers

Presentation of Design Awards
The Kidsafe 2010 National Playspace Design Awards will be announced as part of National Kidsafe Day celebrations on 26 October 2010.
Winning entries will be promoted in relevant Kidsafe publications as well as a variety of journals of professional associations in design, health and education.
Submission of Entries
Individuals and organisations from all sectors are invited to enter completed playspace projects in the Kidsafe 2010 National Playspace Design Awards by submission of the following:
- Completed Kidsafe 2010 National Playspace Design Awards Entry Form or by contacting your local Kidsafe state office
- Final plans, at appropriate scale (PDF file). Details and elevations may be submitted as necessary
- Letter of support from playspace provider / owner where applicable
- Evidence of compliance to the Australian Standards for playgrounds and/or similar documentation
- Power Point presentation, maximum of 7 slides, illustrating project site and works undertaken (PDF file)
