Playground Safety
INTRODUCTION
The Playground Advisory Unit is the principal agency for playground safety and development in NSW.
THE UNIT
The Playground Unit comprises a multi-disciplinary team of personnel
from a variety of professional backgrounds, including landscape design,
child development and information services
AIMS
The Unit aims to increase the number of safe, creative play environments
that comply with Australian Playground Safety Standards, in order
to promote participation in recreational activities
SERVICES
The Unit provides a technical, safety and design information service
for all groups in NSW. These services include:
Training:
One and two day Inspection and Maintenance workshops comprising:
- Examination of compliance and maintenance issues according to Australian Playground Safety Standards
- Information packages
- Practical assessments of playgrounds
On-Site Inspection Services:
- One hour verbal consultation providing information on safety and design issues to assist groups with upgrades
- Full safety audit with report and checklists
Other Services Provided:
As well as training and on-site inspections the Playground Advisory
Unit provides a range of other services including:
- Provision of 'Fact Sheets' and other publications to assist in the development of safe, creative playgrounds
- Assist groups in interpreting the playground safety standards
- Design, construction and maintenance advice for safe and creative play areas
- Evaluation of playspace plans
- Display of a best practice playspace at Kidsafe House
- Services specifically for regional, disadvantaged or special need groups
