Playground Safety and Inspection Workshop Tuesday 31st August 2010

The Playground Safety and Design workshop conducted by the Playground Advisory Unit (PAU) includes a one day workshop, information packages and practical assessments of playgrounds, examining maintenance and compliance issues.

Workshops can be tailored to individual group needs such as children's services, local government and schools etc. The workshops promote the purchase and use of compliant playground equipment, and encourage improved inspection and maintenance regimes of playground equipment and promote an understanding of the current Australian Playground Safety Standards:

  • AS4685:2004 Playground Equipment
  • AS/NZS4422:1996 Playground Surfacing
  • AS4486.1:1997 Playground development, installation, inspection, maintenance and operation
Participants at the workshop will be provided with the following information:
  • Playground injury statistics
  • Current Australian/New Zealand Surfacing and Playground Equipment Standards
  • Strategies for ensuring playground equipment is maintained to the requirements of the Australian Standards
  • The planning process in developing safe and creative playspaces
  • Documenting and archiving
  • Certificates of compliance

Evaluation forms are given to each participant to complete at the end of the workshop.

 

Facilitators


The project officers from the PAU hold combined qualifications and experience in Occupational Therapy, Children's Services, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and OHS Auditing. Project officers have experience in conducting playground inspections and are UTS Level 3 Comprehensive Inspectors. The PAU is a representative on the Australian Standards committees for Playground Equipment and Contained Play Facilities. The PAU project officers hold a Certificate IV Training and Assessment qualification.

Presentations


The Kidsafe NSW Playground Advisory Unit team are available to deliver short presentations for conferences and seminars. These presentations may be tailored for schools, local government, children's services (including Family Day Care) and community groups etc.
