Project Officer Playground Inspector, Kidsafe NSW Playground Advisory Unit
Status:
- Part-time: min 21 hrs p/w or
- Full-time: max 35 hrs p/w
- Negotiable
Remuneration: Ranging from approximately $50 - $55 plus entitlements, depending on qualifications, skills and level of experience
Reporting Relationship: Program Manager - Kidsafe NSW Playground Advisory Unit (PAU)
Role Overview:
- Conduct and report on playground safety inspections (may include playground surface impact attenuating tests), for playground developments across a range of sectors, in line with the Australian Standards for Playground Equipment and Surfacing
- Assist clients in understanding and conforming to the Playground Standards; and
- Assist clients to create inclusive playspaces
Required Qualifications:
- Vocational qualifications and experience in playground maintenance, landscape construction and design, and/or work health and safety
- Vocational qualifications in playground inspecting e.g AHCPGD510 Conduct Comprehensive Playground Inspection of Park Facilities, or equivalent professional development and experience. Note: this training is available through Kidsafe NSW
- Tertiary and/or vocational qualifications in early childhood, primary and/or secondary education; or
- Tertiary qualification in landscape architecture/design, horticulture, work health and safety or equivalent
Required Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of types of playground equipment and related hazards
- Practical skills and knowledge in identifying hazards, conducting and reporting risk assessment
- Knowledge of children’s development and how this influences their play and behaviour in playground environments
- Demonstrated ability to work with broad direction but act independently in operational matters and set priorities, within agreed timeframes
- Good interpersonal skills, including ability to work constructively as part of a team, and to liaise with a range of external clients and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to organise schedules and manage reporting timelines
- Computer literacy and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Current Driver’s Licence
Desirable:
- ​Demonstrated ability to assess play environments against Australian Standards or relevant regulations
- Knowledge of inclusivity as it relates to children’s play and playgrounds
- Knowledge of current injury trends and prevention strategies, particularly as it relates to children’s play
- Trained and/or experienced in playground surface impact testing
- Willingness to strengthen knowledge and experience through practical on the job training
