Are you planning to buy a car seat? (or perhaps you know someone who is)
Take part in a child safety study and receive $100 back on your car seat!
Kidsafe NSW is helping spread the word about an important study being conducted by NeuRA (Neuroscience Research Australia). Recent research indicates that 50% of car seats have errors in how they are used. These errors increase the risk of injury in a crash. Through this study, NeuRA aims to identify if information sent out with new car seats can increase the correct use of child car seats.
Who can take part?
NeuRA is looking for parents who are planning to purchase a new child car seat, and want to help all children in Australia travel as safely as possible. You do need to live within 2 hours of Sydney, have a current driver’s license and be one of the child’s primary carers. The two seats in the study are the Britax Compaq for 0-4 year olds, or Britax Maxi Guard Pro for 6 months-8 years.
What’s involved?
A NeuRA researcher would talk to you on the phone and check you are eligible. If you want to participate, you purchase the car seat online, and then it is sent to you with the study materials. After six months, they arrange a home visit at a time that suits you. At that time, they check the car seat and conduct a 10-minute survey. You will be given feedback if the restraint check finds that there is anything that could be done more safely. They then arrange the $100 reimbursement.
You will be helping NeuRA identify what is helpful for guiding the correct use of child car seats.
